Teaching

The teaching load is not heavy. I have two groups of students in an introductory course on medical ethics that lasts for only four weeks, one seminar which I teach over two weekends, and one weekly seminar class which I co-teach with Silke. Due to poor publicity of the seminars, and the fact that they are held in English, only a few students register. Most of the students are studying medicine, with a few from social science. In general I find them likeable, and they are much more polite than Israelis – they arrive in time for class, read the assignments, are quiet and attentive, and wait patiently for the professors to finish before they gather their papers and bags at the end of the session. Sometimes they applaud as a sign of appreciation, rapping their knuckles on the table rather than clapping their hands.
